A Thatched Cottage Where Connemara Meets the Atlantic
Sweet Nothings sits in a thatched cottage on the R341, right where Connemara meets the Atlantic. The old post office turned cafe, with its stone walls and blue-painted benches outside, looks like something from a postcard. But the food is the real reason people come back.
Everything here is made from scratch. The sourdough, the wraps, the cakes, the falafel. The BBQ jackfruit wrap has its own following. The hummingbird cake gets mentioned by name in reviews. And the brownie with raspberries and cream has stopped more than one cyclist mid-ride. Dog's Bay and Gurteen Bay are a short walk away, so you can earn your lunch or walk it off after.
With 155 Google reviews at 4.9 stars and a Best Cafe in Galway nomination at the 2025 Irish Restaurant Awards, the word is well and truly out. But it still feels like a secret. Pull up a chair outside, order a coffee, and watch the Connemara sky do its thing.
“Such a lovely spot in Ballyconneely! The staff are some of the friendliest I've ever met, so warm and welcoming. The food is fresh, clean, and comforting.”
